In addition to the possibility of seeing dozens of shooting stars per hour, Tremblant Beneath the Stars offers visitors a variety of educational activities for the whole family. see live images (equipped with a 16-inch telescope) on a giant screen, as a powerful laser points out stars, constellations, satellites and planets in the night sky.

And, of course, meet amateur and professional astronomers and look through their telescopes to see celestial objects like Jupiter and its moons, as well as the fascinating surface of our own Moon.

Celestial Scavenger Hunt

Pick up your Passport to the Stars at the CSA tent and search for treasures of the sky hidden throughout the pedestrian village. Drop off your completed passport in the Grand Manitou at the summit before 11:00 pm on Saturday night for a chance to win a special prize courtesy of the CSA! The draw will take place at 11:15 p.m.

On Saturday afternoon, amateur astronomers from local clubs, as well as the Canadian Space Agency, will make their telescopes available to visitors to view the Sun (and possibly even solar flares and sun spots) with the aid of special, safe filters. Be sure to drop by the Canadian Space Agency kiosk in the village square on Saturday afternoon to learn how to make a shoebox solar telescope.

Tips for observing the stars like a pro

  • Dress warmly! It can get cold at the summit of the mountain (even in summertime). Don't forget your hat and gloves. A thermos of hot chocolate is a great idea, too!
  • Bring a folding chair or a blanket to sit on.
  • Pack your binoculars. Under the right observing conditions, you will be surprised how many stars you can observe with them.
  • For safety's sake, carry a flashlight with a red bulb or, if you have a clear bulb, cover it with red cellophane paper or red tape. Amateur astronomers use red lights only, since white light is harder on the eyes in the dark.
