Lance Armstrong and the 24h of Cycling unite to beat cancer!

Ride for the fun, the challenge, the cause!

Montréal, Mont-Tremblant, August 26, 2010 –Tremblant’s 24h of Cycling joins the Cedars Tour de Lance in its fight against cancer. From September 10 to 12, the whole Mont-Tremblant region will mobilize to welcome, for the third consecutive year, the Cedars Tour de Lance, and to welcome for the first time the all-new 24h of Cycling, in which people who like to bike will get together to raise as much money as possible for children – all in a festive, exciting atmosphere!

The Cedars Tour de Lance

The Cedars Tour de Lance is an exciting fundraising event that allows a limited number of passionate and philanthropic cyclists to have the ride of their life with Lance Armstrong, the famous international athlete who has thrown himself, for the past several years, into the fight against cancer. The Tour de Lance gives participants the unique opportunity to outdo themselves both on their bikes and in their fundraising!

Isabelle Rochefort, her son Julien and his three brothers: a double mother-and-sons challenge: the Tour de Lance and the 24h of Cycling!

“I am finally going to be able to take part in the Tour de Lance, a challenge that I’ve been hoping to take on for the past two years. Now I have the heart and the energy to succeed at this wonderful challenge – that of collecting $25,000 for cancer research and riding for 100 km at the side of one of the true greats of the world of cycling,” says Isabelle Rochefort.

"In December 2003 my son Julien was admitted to hospital via Emergency. Things weren’t going well. He was diagnosed with a brain tumour the size of a small orange. After almost five years of difficult treatments, Julien no longer needs chemotherapy and for now, the tumour seems to have stopped growing. He has recovered the normal liveliness of a nine-year-old boy and those who know him will even tell you that he’s in great shape. He can finally bike like other kids his age and to quote him, says, ‘Maman, I just can’t stop!’

My participation in the Tour de Lance is a way of saying thank you to all those who work incessantly to beat this illness, which touches so many people around us. Without research, Julien’s life might be very different. Julien’s brothers (Louis, Frédérik and Charles) will also be part of a 24h of Cycling team.

All donations received by our family will be turned over, in full, to the department of oncology supported by the Cedars Cancer Institute in two famous Québec hospitals: the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) and the Centre hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal (CHUM).

I would like to thank you with all my heart for your donations and I encourage you to continue! This illness has knocked, uninvited, on our doors and is completely destabilizing, particularly when it hits our beloved little ones,” concludes Isabelle.

The 24h of Cycling

The 24h of Cycling brings together teams of six to 12 cyclists of all levels, for the fun, for the challenge and for the cause as they ride, in relay format, for 24 hours on the prestigious Circuit Mont-Tremblant. The funds raised will be given to the Cedars Cancer Institute and the Fondation Tremblant. In the participation category, the team raising the most money takes home the honours in this first-ever event, and the team that completes the greatest number of laps of the 4.3 km track will win the performance category. On September 11, Lance Armstrong will do an honour lap with all the participants to kick off this event, and will then hit the streets of the region for his 100 km Tour de Lance.

A whole weekend dedicated to cycling and the cause, in great company!

This weekend of cycling in the Mont-Tremblant region offers an exciting program, a lively transition zone, a unique closed and safe track, bike industry kiosks, equipment demos, activities for the whole family, free concerts and several other surprises.

Lyne Bessette, Louis Bertrand and Bruno Pelletier will be participating in the 24h of Cycling as ambassadors. They are doing it for the love of cycling and to help in the fight against cancer.
